George Lynch's Guitar Pickup Selector - Stupidly Wonderful

Did you seen George Lynch's Kamikaze or Skulls and Snakes guitar? They are two-pickups guitars, and they don't have any toggle or lever-action switch. How is George Lynch selecting the right pickup?

Everything is made in a very simple way. These guitars are equipped with a push-pull potentiometers. The volume pot is also a pickup selector switch.

This is how it looks like:

How it works?

When the push-pull pot's knob is pulled-up, the neck pickup is connected to the wiring. When the knob is pushed-down, the bridge pickup is on. There is no middle position.

It can be a very useful mod, if you are looking for some simple wiring, and you would like to have the volume control with the pickup selector in the one knob. However, if you like to play on both pickups together - middle position - forget about it.

Personally, I prefer toggle switches. They feels more „heavy-duty”. Controlling a toggle is also more handy for me, than push-pull knob operations.

From the other side, a push-pull pickup selector will save a place for other things. For example, you will be able to use a typical pickup switch as a tone cap selector. It can be a quite cool mod!
